What I like about blogging. - I like the way that we can blog freely to express our feelings. I also like it when I can actually store my products on my blog. For instance, I have got my products of photo editing, video editing, audio editing and even e-book! Blog is where I record my progress and what I have done, so that I can always come back and refer to my previous project, whenever that I need to.
What I do not like about blogging. - I like blogging. :)
What have I gained from blogging eg. Language skills, improved fluency, critical thinking, improved thought processes, technology skills etc.
How? - From blogging, I think I have developed better critical thinking. When I want to reflect on things that I had done while writing my blog, that's where critical comes in so that I could reflect critically. I think I might have improved my language skills and fluency. As I was writing for academic purposes, most of the time I have been trying to keep my language accurate. Hence, I think from there my language skills and fluency improved. Well, technology skill, no doubt this is the first time that I'm doing blogging, hence, the blogging assignment had actually introduced me another elements of technology. Thought process did improve too because while writing blog I have to think and reflect things systematically, only I could express what I want to say in the blog.
What I like about the course - I like the course because it was a good exposure to me in terms of the internet and editing skills. Through this course I learned how to download video from broadcasting and streaming website (which I had never tried), how to edit photo, audio, and video. I believe those skills will be useful when I am teaching in the school later.
What I do not like about the course - Basically I found that the duration given for some of the task were a little bit too short, for instance the 8TV task.
What I have learned from the course - I have learned at least the skills of editing photo, audio and video. I too learned to use many software, such as Cyberlink PowerDirector, Adobe Photoshop, Audacity and so on. Besides, I learned the way to use the things that we already know creatively, for instance, creating e-book from PowerPoint which I am familiar with.
What I do not expect but have learned from the course - I had never expected that we would learn to creating business cards, pamplets and flyers using Publisher. Besides, the theories such as the children's instincts were also out of my expectation.
What I expect but have not learned from the course - Basically I have learned all the things that I expected to learn.
If I can change anything about the course - I would like to have some sessions teaching us on how to come out with non-technological teaching aids (as most of the time we have been dealing with the technological ones during the weekly tasks). For instance, I would love to learn on how to create and use Flannel Board. The reason is that in classroom, we do not use only the technological teaching aids, non technological teaching aids do play their part too.

Final Exams.. Final Resolution...
Until this week this semester is coming to an end. Throughout the whole semester, I think I finally got to learn something new somehow. In this whole semester I had done photo editing, audio editing, video editing, e-book and some other theories. We were left to explore the softwares, such as Adobe Photoshop, Audacity, Cyberlink Power Director, Windows Movie Maker, Video Converter, Audio Converter and so on. There were countless skills that I had learned, for instance, the way to split and join video and sound clips, the way to change the background of a picture, the way to create an e-book, and many more which I am not able to mention one by one. Later on those skills were useful when I was to apply them when I was trying to complete the assignment.
As a whole, besides the skills and the softwares that I have learned, I have learned the way to choose the appropriate materials to be used out of thousands of them. There are many criteria that we have to consider in choosing a suitable materials, for instance the language, content, the learning support in the materials and so on. This is something that is going to be very useful for my teaching life in the future. I will carry this knowledge with me no matter where I go in the future.
Today I sat for the final exam of this course. We were given four questions to be answered in the two hour time. However, I am a little upset. I personally found it quite difficult to understand the questions probably due to the anxiety that I have towards the exams. I think my ability to understand had not reached the required level yet. The thing that is on my mind right now, at this moment, is that I think I might have not worked hard enough for the whole semester. I might not have paid enough of attention to what we were supposed to do. As a result, I found it so hard and tough to answer the exams questions earlier.
Well, this is not the end of the world, I will still work harder. The journey of learning will never stop.

I have done my Assignment 3
After all the sweat and hard work, I had finally done my Assignment 3. Handed in the assignment today, I felt so relieved. This morning in the computer laboratory, the whole class was under the atmosphere of joy and also tiredness at the same time. Everyone looks so tired in the class. Well, I know last night was a sleepless night for many of us. I saw quite a number of friends in instant messeger last night :)
However, from this assignment I have got myself a chance to apply those skills that I have learned from the earlier tasks. I think that the skill that I have used the most is the photo editing skill. I found this skill very useful when I intended to create electronic flash cards. For instance, by using the photo editing skill learned I managed to select only a certain picture that I wanted out of the whole picture. Besides, by using photo editing skill too, I managed to make the background of the pictures transparent so that there will not be a white colour area on a coloured background.
Previously there was a task that we had to come out with a story on e-book. The experience of creating e-book was a great back up for me in completing this assignment too. I found that creating e-book is very good as teacher can save the hassle in all the cutting, pasting, and colouring jobs. Hence, e-book has been very handy to me in doing this assignment.
This assignment gave me the early exposure of the life during teaching practice. We have to get used to creating lesson plans everyday as later during teaching practice we will have to come out with different lesson plan for each class.

We are back after raya!
After the one week Hari Raya break, very quickily we had to attend classes already. Not everyone had come back to KL, some of the friends were still stuck in hometown due to the inability to book any bus ticket as it was still the Raya season. Everyone should be rushing back to KL because all the schools, universities, and companies were going back to their normal operations at the same time, which was yesterday.
Apperantly those who have come back were still in Raya + holiday mood. Everyone was talking about their holiday. Understanding that there was not much that we had started with our assignment, Puan Foziah was kind enough to let us continue work on our assignment.
Hence, there I went to suft the internet for ideas again. As the topic that I'm doing is "Counting is Fun" for Year 2, I was thinking that a flash game would be nice and sweet enough to be completed by the pupils in class. Hence, I found some interesting Flash Games that I might consider using in my lesson plans.

I was not there...
Today I was absent.. because I was having a bad stomachache. I felt so sick when I just got up and finally I had decided not to go to class. However, when i felt better which I thought I could go to the class already, it was already too late for me to go :(
However, this week we were given the task of material analysis.. Actually I dont really know what is that all about.. Anyway, I will find out from friends..

Another Assignment knocks on my door...
The Assignment 2 was a very good practice for me in terms of creating materials. From that assignment I got to practise on choosing appropriate material to be used. Besides, I too learned the way that I could turn something which is not so educational to educational ones. There is also another new software that I had learned, which is AoA Audio Extractor. This software can be used to extract sound file from a video clip, to a MP3 file. Well, at least I learned something new..
Handing in Assignment 2 signifies the coming of another new assignment. I somehow feel that this (new) Assignment 3 is almost the same as the previous assignment. The only difference is that this time round, in stead of one lesson plan, we have to design 4 lesson plans together with the materials.. Another thing that I cant really understand is the group work thingy. I understand that each person is assigned a topic and then based on the topic each member has to come out with 4 lesson plans each. Basically it sounds like the meaning of group work is just to gather on the day to submit the assignment to compile everything together...
Besides the assignment 3, at the same time we were given two other tasks to do which is developing business cards, flyers, pamplets in pairs, while newsletter in group and preparing for the presentation.. So much of work to do at the same time! I feel that I am going crazy!

Four Skill? Are you sure you have them all?
Even though the submission of Assignment 2 was postponed, life is still never easy. This week we are given another task to do, which is the four language skill task. In groups of four, we are to take a language skill each, and design an activity for any stage of the particular skill lesson.
What I did for this task is just to go online and search for recording because i am doing listening skill. It was not easy to find a suitable recording to be use. I have to cater the level of proficiency of the primary ESL classroom in Malaysia. Here, choosing the appropriate material is important as in out of many recordings online, I have to choose something which is suitable for the children in Malaysia. For instance, if the accent of the recording that is chosen is too different from what the children hear daily, they would definitely find it difficult to listen to the recording.
I spent some time in front of the laptop and after a few hours only I managed to find a suitable recording. I understand that we have to be very careful as in choosing the wrong materials is definitely not going to benefit the pupils.

I'm working on Assignment 2
For this Assignment 2, we are required to download Michael Jackson's Earth Song from Youtube and develop teaching materials from that video. At the same time, we have to choose another video that we think suitable to be used in an ESL classroom, and also develop teaching materials from there.
I think that developing materials from the Michael Jackson's Earth Song is quite tough because basically there is no any direct teaching point found in the video. I looked at the video, the video looked at me. When I was having headache did not know what to do, I was just so lucky that Kom actually offered to develop materials from Earth Song! :D
Hence, my job is to search for another suitable video from Youtube to be used. In fact this is tough too, as in there are so many videos in Youtube, until it was too many for me to choose! When I was searching for video, actually I started to regret for not taking the MJ video. haha.. I find that I always face dilema in making choices.. same goes to choosing video on Youtube.. ZZzZZz
However, these two weeks had been a very busy week. And I was very glad that the submission of Assignment 2 had been postponed to one week later. There are so a lot to do.. have to choose video, then develop materials, then design lesson plan, and then write rationale.. It was good that the deadline was postponed.. I am very glad :) or else i wouldnt have idea how i am going to hand in this assignment...

I love E-book!
As mentioned in the previous blog, the task for last week was to create an e-book. In fact there is nothing new about it as all of us are already very familiar with PowerPoint presentation ever since the time that we were still in the college. We used to do PowerPoint for our oral presentation, remember?Well, basically that was a pretty easy job for us. The only new thing is the idea that making an electronic story book by using PowerPoint presentation.
Ok, it's time to be serious. The next thing that is waiting for us is Assignment 2. Yeah, Assignment 2. Initially I got a shock and I was quite speechless too as all the while I thought that the Internet Skills assignment was our Assignment 2.. Suddenly Assignment 2 was transformed to designing a lesson plan with teaching materials developed from Michael Jackson's song..... My partner of this task is Komathi. I hope I would have fun doing the assignment...

How is your life as a university student?
During the holiday we were assigned another task to do. This task was some kind of video editing too, but we were to come out with a video on a particular theme. Since this task was due in the holiday, we gave priority to the So You Think You Can Dance first before the holiday. However I found it quite difficult to work during the holiday and keep in touch with my partner as my home in hometown has no internet. Everyday I had to carry my laptop to the cafe and order a drink in order to use the wireless internet connection there. After a lot of hard work, we managed to create our own video to be uploaded onto Youtube.
From this task, I learned how to create video based on a single theme. The theme that we had chosen is "student life". I managed to follow closely the theme, from the comments given by our friends, the content of the video was closely related to our lives as a student in university. And I personally feel that it reflected the life of a university students to certain extent. Life as a university student is sometimes tiring yet fun.
Even though video editing is not really a new thing to me, but this was the first time that I used Cyberlink Power Director. I was very happy to explore the software, as the further I go along with the software, the more I found it handy to me. Compared to Windows Movie Maker that I used to use and know better, Cyberlink PowerDirector enabled me to create more interesting videos in terms of varieties of animations and titles. Windows Movie Maker is kind of a basic one, as it contains only the necessary features in video editing. On the other hand, in Power Director, things are made much easier, for instance, if I need to use a certain part of a video clip, i only need to look at the time, key in the time line, and the intended part would be extracted. Well, this is only one of the examples. There are a lot more that I have learned about this software.
After the video task, what followed was the e-book task. Today we were shown a few examples of e-book in the class by Puan Foziah. Initially I got all freaked out when I heard that we were to create an e-book. All that was on my mind was the kind of sophisticated e-books with great animations and stuffs like that. I was very afraid that I might not be able to make it.
However, after looking at the examples given, I got all relieved as there was nothing new other than creating PowerPoint slide show! The only thing new here is that instead of the theoretical slide show, now we are to do slide show on story. Looking at the example, I roughly know what is required in the e-book. I hope I will have fun doing the e-book!

How was the Video Editing? Now do you think you can dance?
To be frank, this task was a night mare for me. In fact the time given was quite short, as there were only 4 days allocated for this task. It was a bit short because group work is definitely time consuming. Video editing is something that has to be done step by step and I think that dividing job among group members is not really a possible act. To be precise, for this task, firstly we needed to download the episodes from 8tv website. Then, we need to gather all the materials to be edited.
This is where the problem occurs. Video editing cannot be divided to be done by a few people as the video needs to have a good flow even after the editing which might not be maintained if the video is edited by a few persons at different times. Hence, sitting down as a group appears t be the best way to accomplish this task. However, it is not easy for the whole group to sit down together to do the editing job due to the difference of schedule. It was quite tough for us to find time to gather all the group members to attempt the task together.
Things went worst when it went to the uploading part. After coming back home from the university, without wasting any time I switched on the laptop to start uploading the videos onto Adec. I did not know what was the matter, perhaps the files were just too large to be uploaded onto Adec. We were required to do everything in avi format, which appears to be one of the largest file ever. I sat down in front of the laptop for at least 8 hours, I only managed to upload one out of more than 20 videos! That was crazy!
Knowing that the other group members were likely to be able to upload the video, I packed my stuffs to go and stay in the house in order to try upload the videos as soon as possible. There we stayed up the whole night trying to upload the video. Everyone was very tensed up as all the group members were going back to hometown on that day for holiday. However, after staying up the whole night we only manage to upload another 1 video onto Adec.
In the end we decided to upload the videos onto adec in the computer lab in the university. Luckily we managed to upload the video in the computer lab. Yet, things did not end here. Later on in the evening, when I was almost going to start my journey back to hometown, I got to know that we were to burn all the videos in CD and hand in the CD to Izyan. This sudden change of instruction had cause me a mental break down after staying out for the whole night. I just could not take it anymore as the instruction was quite last minute. Here, thank you izyan, for actually trying your best to find the solution for us regarding the failure to upload the videos onto adec. Also thanks to zarne, as she was the one who burned the CD when I could not take it anymore.

Audio Editing... Learned!
Audio editing task was a great challenge to me, as before approaching this task, I had never done any audio editing task before. Hence, it can be considered as I started this task with zero knowledge.
I started with downloading and exploring the suggested software, Audacity. It is a very useful software, as in it is user friendly, and it took me only a while, to get hold of the functions and the features of the software. Through this task, I am very happy that I learned another new software, Audacity (audio editing software) and also a new online storage site, 4shared.com. As in before this I was never exposed to any kind of online storage.
Patience and determination are among the key points in completing this task. Playing a very important role, they actually helped me in holding me back to my seat when I was almost going to give up on the task. I was so fed up listening to the same song again and again for so many hours! Telling myself I had to be patient and by hook or by crook I would have to finish the task, finally self discipline had come to me and then I managed to finish it.

There was a great deal of trials and errors before I could actually come out with the final product. I hope Pn Foziah will like the edited song. Perhaps it was not the best, but, I had tried my best to do it with all my heart.

For the task of the week, we be in groups to work on the editing of the "So You Think You Can Dance" episodes. I am very fortunate that video editing is not a complete stranger to me. Hence, I am feeling much better compared to the time when we were just given the photo editing and audio editing task.

Photo Editing Product :)
This is the product of my photo editing task. I changed the background, and also wrote my name and date on the picture. This picture had been uploaded in PhotoBucket :) I hope my product is not so bad after all :)

Photo Editing Task... Meaningful :D
Here, I am doing some reflection on photo editing.
At first, I missed the dateline. Due to the misunderstanding of the date line of the task, I didn't make it on time to upload my edited photo on PhotoBucket. However, I and the others were lucky enough to be given a second chance to upload the edited photo again. After this, I promise to myself, I would be more careful on the dateline.
To do a good photo edit, it is very important to choose good photos to be edited. While choosing the photo, it is best when the photos can blend in a photo nicely. Well, still, it does not matter if the photos do not blend, only a little more knowledge needed to blend them together. I guess that's what photo editing is all about.
I think that Adobe Photoshop is a very good and suitable software to be used in editing a picture. Before this I heard of it and used it sometimes for scanning purposes, but then I had not gotten any chance to really look into it and understand its function. This tutorial task gave me a chance to get to know Adobe Photoshop.
Besides, I too learned some techniques in doing a good photo editing. The lecturer notes and PowerPoint Presentation were very handy as they explained the steps or techniques on editing photos. My idea on the task came from those notes too.
I learned a lot through this task. I found it very meaningful. I believe this is one skill that would help me a lot when I am doing my assignments later.

We were exposed to a few examples on audio editing, for instance, cutting out unwanted words from a speech or song. Again this is another new thing for me after the photo editing. I would never expected that we were going to learn audio editing too. This is definitely cool!

I missed the deadline!
It's nine o'clock in the morning. I am feeling like a zombie after struggling for the whole night in order to complete the tutorial for the photo editing task. I rushed through the tutorial, but it was already eight o'clock in the morning.
It was very unfortunate that I actually missed the deadline for this photo editing task. Due to the misunderstanding of the verbal instructions, I only manage to complete the whole task couple of minutes ago. Well, it was my fault that I was not alert enough of the date to hand in the task, as I did not expect that the phrase "hand in by this weekend" actually means handing in the task midnight before the Sunday. Things came even worst when I was not at home by the time some of my friends told me we were to upload our product on Photo Bucket IMMEDIATELY (it was already very near to the time that the Photo Bucket to be closed". *Sigh*
Well, in the end I managed to complete my tutorial. Since the Photo Bucket was closed, I signed up an account in Photo Bucket and uploaded my product in my own account. Tutorial was sent to Pn Foziah's email address too. *Sigh* I hope things are not too late :(
From here I learned that from now onwards I must be more careful on the deadlines. Photo editing, ever done that?
In the class yesterday we were told that we are to edit a photo on our own. Wow, that sounds exciting! To be frank, I have never done any of the photo editing job before. I don't even know a single thing about any photo editing software.
Very quickly we were given the briefing of the basics of photo editing. We were suggested to use Adobe Photoshop for the photo editing. Then we were given a few slide shows of the tutorial on the functions of the Adobe Photoshop for the basic knowledge of photo editing. We are to look at the tutorials given and start working on our own. I hope I will be able to come out with a good editing job!

Progress on Assignment 2.. not easy!
As i go on with the Assignment 2, I realized that choosing a good and suitable material for classroom is definitely not easy. I sat in front of the computer searching for suitable materials for hours.. Yeah, hourS..
At first I got confused.. yeah.. I kept on asking myself.. What is the material on animals.. that is suitable for children? I had to look at the text book, curriculum specification, syllabus, and it's also crucial to take the children's interest and attention span into consideration!
Thus, developing resources for primary classroom is definitely not easy!

Classroom Resources.. Need it or NO?
I came across an article on line, and I shall discuss the article by stating its main points.
Firstly, teachers should brainstorm the kinds of resources that they need in the classroom and write them down in a list. This is to make it easier for the teachers to gather resources that they need ONLY rather than piling up the whole chunk regardless the usefulness and the appropriateness of the resources simply because they are attractive.
Teachers can try to gather the resources needed online as there are plentiful of resources available on the internet. As technology has become a part pf our lives, it has become a very useful source of our teaching materials as well.
Here are some of the questions that teachers can ask while gathering their resources:
Reading materials too are very important in primary classroom. Before getting reading materials for the class, teachers should consider the pupils' readability, the appropriateness of the topic, vocabulary, pupils' proficiency level, illustrations and also the difficulty level of the exercises for follow up. By taking above mentioned points into consideration, it is not difficult for the teachers to get ready with good and suitable reading materials.
Visual aids are handy to be used in classroom as they are very effective in attracting and sustaining the pupils' interest. Here are the checklist for getting the visual aids to be used in classroom.

Assignment 2???
Today in the class we were given the exposure to the second assignment that we have to do, namely Assignment 2. I have some kind of feelings that I was very blur when I was in the class. Seriously I could not really understand what was the task all about. Nor could I understand those things that were taught by Pn Foziah. I felt that I was completely lost.
We were told that we had to master certain skills in order to complete this assignment. Well, I tried my best to pay attention to the briefing. Yet I still think that I got nothing out of it because there were a lot of terms which I could not understand. In the end I had no choice but to ask around.
Later, I managed to log onto Adec to check what is the assignment all about. There were only 5 words found, keyboarding, Searching, Downloading, Storing, Burning, which too could not help in developing my understanding. I went to ask my group members what was the assignment all about. Then only i realized that we had to find some materials online, and through the process of finding, indirectly we develop the skills required in the assignment. Hmm, I shall go back and look at it more closely.

I'm going to develop resources!
It was the first class of this subject in this semester. This is the first time that I was exposed to the idea of keeping track on what I have done for a particular course by using blogspot. Well, this is definitely something new for me, as we had never done this in the college before. Hmm, this could be interesting.
During the first session, the briefing of this course sounded very promising. I somehow got the feeling that we are going to have fun! Well, let's see what happens later. The new life in UM is waiting for me!
