Classroom Resources.. Need it or NO?

I came across an article on line, and I shall discuss the article by stating its main points.

Firstly, teachers should brainstorm the kinds of resources that they need in the classroom and write them down in a list. This is to make it easier for the teachers to gather resources that they need ONLY rather than piling up the whole chunk regardless the usefulness and the appropriateness of the resources simply because they are attractive.

Teachers can try to gather the resources needed online as there are plentiful of resources available on the internet. As technology has become a part pf our lives, it has become a very useful source of our teaching materials as well.

Here are some of the questions that teachers can ask while gathering their resources:

  • Will it be a supplementary learning program (i.e. practice) to be used on alternative lessons or in lieu of the regular classroom routine?
  • Can it be used for a variety of classrooms or will teachers need to purchase a number of online educational packages. Remember, what your school will purchase today for your classroom, will be quickly replaced by some newer computer learning program tomorrow.
  • Is there room for student learning and growth with regard to diversified instruction? Will it supplement the teaching objectives?
  • Can students progress and learn at their own pace?

Reading materials too are very important in primary classroom. Before getting reading materials for the class, teachers should consider the pupils' readability, the appropriateness of the topic, vocabulary, pupils' proficiency level, illustrations and also the difficulty level of the exercises for follow up. By taking above mentioned points into consideration, it is not difficult for the teachers to get ready with good and suitable reading materials.

Visual aids are handy to be used in classroom as they are very effective in attracting and sustaining the pupils' interest. Here are the checklist for getting the visual aids to be used in classroom.

  • Can this visual aid also be replaced with some of students' work?
  • Can I prepare this visual aid on my own?
  • Is this visual aid too expensive and thus unnecessary for my classroom learning needs?
  • Is this visual aid user-friendly and motivating for learning?

Hence, I found this article is useful for the teachers.
